101: Introductory Course to Firearm Self-Defense Training and Trauma Medicine
As active Navy SEALs and experienced trauma medics, we are pleased to offer a day out to shoot together and learn life saving medical techniques. In our time together, we'll cover the same essential combat shooting skills Navy SEALs use in the field to give you the knowledge to protect yourself and others in high-stress, dangerous situations. We'll start by introducing you to the fundamentals of self defense and combat shooting, including proper stance, grip, and aiming techniques for real life situations. You'll learn how to use a variety of firearms, from pistols to rifles, and practice shooting at targets in both static and dynamic scenarios.
But self defense isn't just about shooting accurately. It's also about understanding how to respond to threats and deescalate dangerous situations. We'll teach you how to assess potential threats, communicate effectively, and make split-second decisions under pressure.
Of course, even the best self defense strategies can't always prevent injuries. That's why we'll also cover trauma medicine, including how to respond to gunshot wounds, knife wounds, and other life-threatening injuries. You'll learn how to administer first aid, including basic life support techniques and how to use tourniquets and other medical equipment.
Course Details
This course introduces you to some of the key technical skills taught in emergency trauma medicine, such as a first responder or EMT course. But without spending weeks in training, we will focus on the key lifesaving techniques that are simple, accessible, and can be used to save a life. We will also demonstrate some of the complex trauma medicine techniques that are used on the field and let you practice them yourself on human-like anatomy.

The combat shooting portion of the course reviews the essential shooting skills. We start here to ensure safety and the proper fundamentals for real life scenarios, since sometimes the habits picked up on a shooting range may not be applicable or can even be detrimental in real life scenarios. Once we are familiar with shooting theory and safety skills, we will practice the skills with dummy rounds to warm up the fingers and build muscle memory. These include the high ready position, scanning for targets, presenting to the target, front sight focus, reloading in a combat position to maintain situational awareness.
Then we move on to the live rounds. We will spend the rest of the afternoon on the range practicing these techniques, starting with simple exercises while practicing range safety, and afterwards moving onto more complex shooting drills to replicate real life scenarios. We will end the afternoon with a small shooting competition with exploding targets! (Don’t worry, they’re safe and commercially available… and also a lot of fund)
